About
Zemula Fleming is an artist living and working on the Oregon Coast. She grew up in California, but in her adult life, she has lived in many places in the United States. Oregon has been her home for the last 35 years. Art has always been central to Zemula’s life since she was a small child, especially figurative art, and from an early age she was fascinated with portraiture from earlier centuries. An art major at Whitman College in Washington, her emphasis was on drawing and sculpture. Studying illustration later at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, she did much research into the Medieval era as preparation for many of her projects. To this day she finds that time period, as well as the Renaissance era, fascinating inspiration for her art.
Throughout her life she has done extensive work in pen and ink, watercolor, woodworking, and sculpture. She began seriously painting in acrylics in the mid 1990s, and the mosaics began around 2007. She currently shows both mosaics and paintings in several galleries on the Oregon Coast.
